Dental Care Professionals FAQ

I am registered with the GDC as a dental hygienist and dental therapist. Do I need to complete the type of work information for both roles?

No. If you are working as a dental therapist, you only need to declare work as a therapist. This covers all areas of a therapist’s scope of practice, including any hygienist duties performed as part of that role.

I am registered as both a dental hygienist and dental therapist but only work as a dental hygienist. What do I need to declare?

If you are working solely within the scope of a dental hygienist, you can enter your role as a hygienist. However, if you are also undertaking any procedures or areas of practice that require registration as a dental therapist, you should complete the dental therapist information.

I am registered as a dental therapist but currently working only as a dental hygienist. What should I declare?

If your work is entirely within the scope of a dental hygienist, declare your role as a hygienist. If you undertake any tasks requiring dental therapist registration, you should include those details as well.

I work within more than one practice and I am employed under different roles, what do I need to declare?

You should provide information relevant to your role in each practice, for example a dental hygienist role for one practice and a dental therapist role for another.
