Judith Husband joined the Council as a non-executive director of MPS in November 2024 and submits herself for election by the membership at the Annual General Meeting in June 2025. She is also a member of the Dental Board, since June 2019.
For over twenty years Judith has worked in general dental practice, committed to providing prevention based dental care to her patients.
In addition to providing clinical care Judith is the Managing Director of her own consultancy company and a trustee of the Oral and Dental Research Trust. She is a keen advocate for the dental profession and patients. Corporate governance and strategic leadership are also key areas of interest, with formal qualifications from the Institute of Directors holding both the Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction.
After graduating from Liverpool Dental School, in 1997 Judith undertook an additional two years postgraduate training in the city, gaining experience in primary and secondary dental care. Relocating to Oxford she managed and worked in both NHS and private practices, in recent years working primarily within secure settings (prisons). With the introduction of competitive tendering in the NHS, a decade ago, Judith has gained wide experience of the developing processes and legislative changes in tendering.
Expanding her clinical services to include reviews and improvement plans for existing prison dental health services and training/induction programmes for new and existing teams. Judith has been actively involved nationally in UK dentistry throughout her career, beginning with the British Dental Association Students Committee and becoming BDSA President. This involvement in national and international dental organisations has provided a unique insight, into the wider world of dentistry, regulation and healthcare provision.
Since January 2006 Judith has been elected to the Executive Board and subsequently Principal Executive Committee of the British Dental Association acting as a non Executive director. In addition to the usual corporate governance responsibilities she has been Chair of Audit Committee and remains a member of the Board sub-committee. She has an ongoing focus on matters related to professional regulation, education, the dental team and professional ethics. There has been extensive working outside the field of dentistry with the Home Office, Border Agency, numerous other professional organisations and the Commission for Equality and Human Rights.
