We are a mutual, and that matters

As a mutual organisation, we bring you and other healthcare professionals together in a common purpose: collective protection against the risks involved in clinical practice. Being a mutual organisation means your needs are at the heart of everything we do.

We are different to shareholder-owned companies whose primary purpose is to make money for other people. We don’t answer to shareholders. There is no one to pay dividends to or to tell us to abandon our purpose because the profit isn’t there. All our decisions are focused on doing what’s best for our membership. We take mutuality seriously because it’s our commitment to you, not just today, but for as long as you need us.

Discretionary support that’s flexible

Our discretionary approach to providing assistance is not about being able to say no. It’s about asking ourselves, ‘How can we help?’

Discretion allows us to treat each case on its individual merit, providing flexibility for a wider range of situations, especially those with unforeseen or unusual circumstances.

Unlike some other organisations, discretion allows us to assess claims and complaints when new issues and risks arise in healthcare and consider where we can support you. Our response for members in the COVID-19 crisis is a clear demonstration of that flexibility.

Our experienced dentolegal consultants and legal specialists can use their judgement and expertise to help you, without being restricted by small print or exclusion clauses.
